![]() Chew Eng Han and Tan Poh Teck, was immediately arrested at sea together. When the Coast Guards intercepted, Chew gave excuses by claiming that they were having a fishing trip. When the boat reaches 2.4 km distance away from Pulau Ubin jetty at 8.47am, Tan Poh Teck, was driving the vessel towards the four fish farms which were in Singapore waters near north-east Pulau Ubin in attempt to switch the boat at the fish farms, the Singapore Police Coast Guards vessels intercepted the motorized sampan. They planned to travel from Pulau Ubin island to Malaysia using the motorized sampan. On 21 February a day before Chew Eng Han was due to start his sentence, the boat driver, Tan Poh Teck assisted Chew Eng Han's intention to flee Singapore illegally. On 20 February 2018, Chew contacted Khoo Kea Leng to request for finding someone who could help him leave Singapore illegally. During this period, Chew attempt to escape Singapore by hiring someone to sneak him out by sea. He is allowed to start serving his sentence on Feb 22, after the Chinese New Year holiday. Chew alleged that this was for "fraudulent misrepresentation of vital facts about the church which induced me and other members to give our donations, and also for use of funds for purposes other than what was represented to the members of the church." Attempt to fled Singapore Ĭhew requested to defer the serving of his sentence after Chinese New Year. In July 2016, Chew filed a new police report against 8 members of the church (including Kong Hee and Sun Ho). ![]() As a result, Chew's sentences was reduced from 6 years of imprisonment to 3 years and 4 months of imprisonment. He also added he had been "brainwashed" into supporting the Crossover Project as Kong Hee regularly played up Sun Ho's music success. During his appeal, Chew says the sentencing judge had "gravely erred" in his ruling, and used a flawed definition of misappropriation. Their appeals are heard by a three-judge panel over five days in September 2016. The prosecutor noted that his defense was incoherent while lacking credibility.Īfter the sentence in October 2015, Chew and 5 other church leaders file an appeal against their convictions. Chew was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment. ![]() In October 2015, he was found guilty of 6 counts of criminal breach of trust and 4 counts of falsifying church accounts under section 409 of the Penal Code.
